Water officials urge conservation
Associated Press - June 12, 2009 7:35 AM ET
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Division of Water Resources says the rainy start to June means lawns and gardens can go at least a week without sprinklers.
Eric Klotz, water conservation and education chief with the water resources division, says there is no need to water as long as it keeps raining like it has in most northern counties.
The water division has received many complaints about people and businesses that continue to water the lawn even though there has been so much rain through the first third of the month - and more is to come.
Klotz says people with automatic sprinklers should turn off the timer for a while. He says even in the hot, dry months of July and August, most lawns only need water every third day.
The state publishes a weekly watering guide for each county.
